The benefit of distilled water, at least for humans, is that it is capable of drawing out toxins and free radicals from cells and thus removing them from the body. Some studies also show that it improves absorption of minerals from other sources. There is not 'irrefutable evidence' of any of this, but I personally believe it, and would assume that it could do the same for ferrets. If they are getting proper nutrition from food and supplements then I don't think they need to rely on getting any from water. I personally drink only distilled water at home, but I usually use filtered tap water for our ferrets' soup.
