I use Revolution on my personal ferrets as well as our shelter ferrets (after heartworm testing) and used the full cat dose for several years. However, after reading this study, I have to wonder if we are giving too much selamectin to the ferrets.
If I am reading the study correctly, the effective dose for ferrets is 18mg/kg to prevent heartworm and fleas. Given the cat dose (60mg/mL) of 45mg in a 0.75mL ampule, are we giving them too much? Somebody check my math please.
I buy the large dog (2mL) ampules (120mg/mL) and my vet has me administer approximately 0.14cc per ferret (a little more for the larger fuzzies) based on the 18mg/kg formula.
