Subject: [ferrethealth] New to group possible sick ferret....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello everyon.

I adopted two ferrets last Friday. They are about four years old each (sisters).

Yesterday I had a huge scare. One of the girls was stumbling about, acting very sluggish and spaced out. I immediately called my friend (who has a good knowledge of Ferret, cause it was late). She said that the ferret may have badly low blood sugar. So we went to her house to get some kyro syrup (and left the ferret at my house (with my Aunt watching her)). I called to see how she was doing, and she perked up. But we gave her a little kyro syrup to be safe.

This afternoon I let them both out, and it happened again. So I gave her some kyro syrup and about 20 minutes later, she was fine.

I spoke with the ferret rescue I got them from, and she says that neither of them have acting that way before. So I was wondering, could being in a new home (they have a new cage as well) cause this problem? Like being depressed or stressed? She hasn't been eating, so I've been giving her some turkey baby food. I say her drinking a few minutes ago though. But she goes to the food and licks it.

She's now sleeping in her cage (I leave the cage open while their out and about).

The area they roam in is completely ferret proofed. And they are watched at all times.

When I got them from the rescue, she said she they hadn't been out of the cage for a long time. Could it be she's not use to running about and is over doing it? Like when a person is bed ridden for a month or so, they have to rebuild their exercise tolerance.

I am going to take her to a vet ASAP, but I'm not sure if there's a highly knowledgeable vet near by. And I learned the hard way about not researching for an appropriate vet.

As of right now, she is responsive and drinking. The other sister is eating and drinking and is acting just fine.

Just to also note, I did have crystal like clumpable cat litter, which my friend told me is not good for them. So I got some new litter. It's small corn pieces.

The other sister is seems happy and healthy. She's eating and drinking. She is about 850 grams, and the one in question is about 525 grams.

If anyone has some advice for this situation, I'd greatly appreciate it. You can reply to this message or you can hit me up on Yahoo or AIM messengers.

Thanks!
