Hi Mike,=A0 You said that your vet removed the left gland, but did he have =
it biopsied?=A0 If he didnt have it biopsied, did he say even if it just *l=
ooked* enlarged or anything?=A0
The reason why my vet doesnt like to do adrenal surgery until the enlarged =
gland shows on ultrasound, is becuz you dont always know which gland is aff=
ected.=A0 I asked him if it was true that usually the left gland was affect=
ed (that is a rumor I heard), and he said no.=A0 He says when in doubt, vet=
s usually removed the left one as it is the easier one to remove.=A0
The only other thing I can think of, is if it was in fact the left gland th=
at was affected, then maybe he didnt remove the entire gland, and part of t=
he tumor is still growing.
Or it could be the right gland that is now affected.=A0
I would ask your vet how experienced he is with doing right gland adrenal s=
urgery.=A0 The fact that he mentioned the possibility of an undecended test=
icle (I suppose possible, but most experienced ferret vets know that its us=
ually adrenal disease), but that would make me leary.=A0 Dont know if you k=
now, but the right gland surgery, is that much more involved and difficult =
than the left gland.=A0 I would definately make sure your vet has done many=
many many of the right gland surgeries.=A0
So, I guess if your asking for advice on what others would do, I *think* my=
vet would recommend at this point, getting the lupron/melatonin injections=
, checking it periodically on ultrasound to see if the right does enlarge, =
or if the left starts to regrow/enlarge.=A0 I know some people will say tha=
t ultrasounds for adrenal is a waste, but I/my vet have had great results d=
oing it this way.=A0 I suppose the degree of accuracy of the ultrasound wou=
ld also matter.=A0 But anyways, thats what I would probably do.
Best of luck w/ your little guy.
