Subject: [ferrethealth] Distemper outbreak in Brevard County FL. Need advice on preventing my ferrets from getting it.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello everyone.

I'm not sure if any of you heard there is an outbreak of canine distemper in
Brevard County FL (Well, it's been around for a month or so). My brother had
adopted a dog that they found out had distemper. Unfortunately they had her
put down last Wednesday. But I went over to his house today (3 days after
the dog being put down), they said they hadn't gotten the chance to
disinfect the house hold and advised me to take a shower and wash the
clothes I was wearing when I got home. Which I did. But is there anything
else I should do before I go play with my lil fur babies?

The adoption place said they were updated on their shots (though I never got
any paper work for it). I've seen what it did to their dog, and i don't want
it to happen to my gals.

Is distemper air borne? Should I get a can of Lysol and Lysol everyone that
comes in the house?

I'm sorry if I'm starting to sound paranoid.

~Theresa
