Subject: [ferrethealth] Kit w/ a Bump above Spay Incision
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
I've had Zoey, a MF kit, for about a week now. The certificate says she was born between Jan 11th and the 17th.
The incision from being spayed was smooth and healed when I got her but the hair has just started to grow back. This morning I felt a small bump located at the very top of the incision. It was not there a week ago when I got her and it was not there last night.
We have an appointment later this week for a check-up and her first distemper vaccination and I'll have the vet look at it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas or has ever experienced this before.
Thanks.
[Moderator's Note:
Contact the vet immediately and leave
a message for a call-back if this is not
a self-dissolving stitch coming out because
it is hard to tell how small "small" is. It
may just be a bit of stitch and if you
mean it is just an incredibly tiny thing
then that's probably it and okay then.
If larger and behaves more like fluid or
semi-solid is in there then there are
two possibilities. One is infection and
the other is a seroma. A seroma is a
fluid filled blister and if those get large
enough an incision can open. We had
an emergency run to the vet with an
open ferret at 3 a.m. thanks to a seroma
and when we asked on here Steve and
I had replies from multiple people who
had incisions open from seromas, so
some staples or other treatment may
be promptly needed.]
