No, it isn't too recent. It's from when she was spayed at the farm. And she is supposedly just over 9 weeks old.

how hard is it, does it change as the ferret breathes,
etc? We've had one with an umbilical hernia (which
is an easy fix when caught early).

The bump is right at the top of the scar caused from being spayed and just slightly to the left (which would be her right). It isn't as round as previously thought. The best way I can think of to describe it is that it's similar in shape to a grain of rice and is slightly angled downward. It is larger than a grain of rice and doesn't change when she breathes.

I contacted the vet and was advised to keep an eye on it until her appt. tomorrow. What was done to fix the umbilical hernia you encountered and what was the likely cause?

Thanks again.
