Subject: [ferrethealth] Lupron Monthly Doseage info needed
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have an adrenal female ferret that is on Lupron monthly injections..She is 5 yrs old and weighs a pound and a half...I have read where most are given a shot of 2mgs a month but yet my vet is only giving her 1/10th of a cc.I am not good with ccs and mgs..Does this sound like too low of a dose or about right?...

[cc is the same as ml. It is VOLUME.
Doses are by WEIGHT, as in mg.
You can't tell the mg amount from
just volume unless there is only
one concentration. When there are
multiple possible concentrations
then you also need to know that
figure which will look like mg/ml.
So, since we don't know the
concentration you did not give enough
information to know how much
medication was given.

Think of it this way. A cup (volume)
of chicken broth has less chicken in
it than a cup of cream of chicken
soup. Same volumes, but the weight
of the chicken that is in each is very
different, or said another way, the
concentration of the chicken is different
in each.
