Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Spleen removal
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Yes, Sabrina had a half pound spleen removed in June, 2008 with 2 nodules on her pancreas. The first few weeks she was on baytrel and carafate for infection and an ulcer that they found after the surgery. I feed her Duksoup for a few weeks and kept her isolated from the other ferrets. I let her out after the others had been out and put back in the cage for the night. We did a few things post op that helped her, she spent the night at a vet clinic that provided her care and the next day at the clinic that did the surgery. In total, she had 2 days away from home. She does like to be cuddled and held to a point, but it still helps her, she also has insulinoma. One thing that seems to help is when any of the ferrets go for surgery, I send a shirt that I have wore for a few days along. This provides a security blanket of sorts for them. Sabrina is a little over 6 years old and is doing quite well without her spleen.

Owned by Sabrina, Emma, Eve and Dokotah. Remembering Baxter and Sammy
