Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Weird question about Cancer
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

As someone who has worked in the field of oncology (adult and pediatric) I can assure you - cancer is not contagious! HOWEVER, there are retroviruses that predispose a person to cancer, and those are contagious - HPV, a human sexually transmitted virus that causes genital warts is an example. So no, you cannot catch cancer from your fuzzkid.

People who had cancer used to be shunned and people were afraid to touch them, which was terrible for the person stricken with the disease. People and animals with cancer need affection, compassion and acceptance. Giving your little one affection will go far in maintaining her quality of life in the time she has left. Good for you for keeping up the TLC!
