Subject: [ferrethealth] CArdiomyopathy
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My 11-12 yo ferret Babe has been Dx'd with cardiomyopathy. I am curious
to what is the gold standard treatment for this?

As of present she has been placed on Vetmedin (pimobendan) 1.25mg at 1/4 a
tablet a day.

I am concerned as my vet told me it could take a month for this med to
kick in. She presented with faster than normal breathing and upon exam her
lungs are clear but xray showed enlarged hear and some tracheal shift.

She is still eating and drinking. Refuses kibble but will take her chicken
gravy. She still begs for treats and is up walking around. She is free
roam.

I am concerned that she does not have a month to wait for meds to kick in.
What other options are their for treatment? I know that this is a
terminal condition. However I want her to have the best quality of life her
remaining days.

thank you
Toni
