One of ours with IBD had a stomach deformation so in his case he had to have 4 surgeries as his stomach worsened over time to keep it under better control and quite a host of medications. He also tended to get pancreatic and liver inflammation from the irritation so Prednisone may as well have been water, but Prednisolone would work. That is because to use Prednisone the liver has to break it down into Prednisolone first, but a compromised liver often can not do that.
Another male in our ferret family actually had it worse. I will try to remember to write you privately about who was used for consultation for meds. In his case Imuran was his most important medication but we also had to watch his diet. A tiny bit of heavy cream once sent him into such a spiral that he almost died, and he could not cope with any type of poultry at all unless it was broken down to amino acids as with z/d food (a prescription food your vet will have).
