Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Is surgery right?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My experiences with surgery have usually been good, but it might be a
good idea especially with older or sicker ferrets to have blood tests
done beforehand. My Pandora died in January a day after insulinoma
surgery. We didn't know going in that she was having trouble with her
kidneys and had an inflamed pancreas. She was 7 and a half but other
than low blood glucose she had seemed to be in good shape, so we weren't
expecting any trouble. If we had done blood tests and discovered these
problems we might have avoided surgery or at least postponed it till we
got these other issues under control.
