Post-op care can also make the difference:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/FHL8735
(because it is empowering for the people)
but it is complicated situation of luck, a
ferret whose medical problem is not so
advanced that nothing would help at that
point, anyway, skill of the surgeon, familiarity
with ferret medical problems at the hospital,
and post op care.
One of ours did not get a scheduled surgery
when her pre-op blood testing that same day
came back too wrong, and another had a
very early insulinoma found that way since she'd
had a mild fast.
We have come close to losing one who had
two terminal conditions when she was on the
table, and another when opened up had such
advanced lymphoma that we came to the
hospital to say goodbye then let her go. That
is over a space of about 28 years with ferrets
in the family.
So, results do vary substantially and there are
multiple factors that could play into that.
