Subject: [ferrethealth] I'm New...Have A Few Questions....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hello. My name is Tracy. I am 25. My boyfriend and I just moved near Albany, NY. I have 2 ferrets. Rambo & Patrick. They are 7 & 6. I have had each since about 6 weeks of age. They have a HUGE 4 level cage with a nice Hammock that they love and a big Jolly Ball that they love to play/sleep with in their cage. I also have 2 litter boxes in their cage. Besides my 2 ferrets I have 3 cats (Maggey is a 7wk old kitten, Tiger will be 6 this summer, and Paynther just turned 1 this year), 2 dogs (Charlie, a Rat Terrier, will be 1 the 21st of this month and Kaydee, a Golden Retriever/Lab mix, will be 2 on the 8th) and an Iguana, Iggy (I rescued in January...I am guessing by the size is under 2 years old). They all get along just fine, they always play nice with each other. I have NEVER had a problem with any of them. Here is my problem though...Rambo and Patrick have ALWAYS used their litter box...sometimes when they are out they will even occasionally use the cats instead of running b
ack to their cage to go...recently though they have stopped using their boxes. Now they seem to just go ANYWHERE and EVERYWHERE in their cage. They would use the one shelf that was directly over the boxes so it went in there anyways...but now they seem to lazily slink out of their hammock (where they will stay ALL day and night unless they are hungry, thirsty or gotta potty) and just go wherever...They seem extremely lazy lately. I know they are getting old. My boyfriend and I just moved and our vet we had in our old town no stopped taking exotics years ago...We are currently looking for a new vet for our own personal issues with this one. So I can't even get them UTD on their shots yet...I have also got to get the Iguana to the vet to get all checked out as I rescued Iggy the end of January. Since we just moved closer to Albany, NY...it will be easier to find a new and better vet that will care for ALL my animals without a problem. My boys have NEVER been sick. They have AL
WAYS been very healthy. I am just wondering if this is a normal behavior in their old age and if or how I can fix it...Please help. I love my boys to pieces and just want them to use their box again. Because of where they are going in the cage it sometimes gets on our carpet and the kitten, Maggey, is starting to go potty where they "miss" and it comes out of the cage. PLEASE HELP...

Tracy

[Part of this question is certainly behavioral:
stress from the move and marking territory,
and part could be health, so this question is
being allowed, although if it were a training
question it would not be within the subject
matter of the FHL. -- Moderator]
