Subject: [ferrethealth] Melatonin implants and insulinoma
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I've noticed after melatonin implants that the ferrets with insulinoma
sleep more and eat less so one may want to make sure everyone is eating
normally and monitor for low sugar symptoms. I've found that waking
them up and hand feeding recipe several times a day is sometimes needed
and is beneficial. After the 1st week or two they seem to go back to
their pre-melatonin schedule on their own but without monitoring they
can crash hard.
Now, for all that get melatonin implants I monitor closely in case one
has insulinoma that I didn't know about. I also get a glucose check
before the implant, but even if normal I monitor them for a couple
weeks since glucose readings go up and down at different times.
