Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Melatonin articles
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
Hi Karen
The first article is called: Effects of melatonin administration on
the clinical course of adrenocortical disease in domestic ferrets.
It was in th Vol 229, no 11, Dec 1 2006 issue of JAVMA on page
1743-1748. The adverse effects was in the next to last paragraph
on p 1748. In the results section on p 1745 there is some more info
that you may be interested in. "The primary caregiver reported marked
increased activity and improved appetite in all ferrets within the first 4
months of treatmnt and maintenance of good activity and appetite throughout
the study period." The study lasted 12 months. 2 of these ferrets were 7
year
old females.
The second article was called: Seasonal fiber growth cycles of ferrets
(Mustela
putorius furo) and long-term effects of melatonin treatments. It was in the
J Exp Zool 1995;272 p435-445.
Hope that helps,
Jerry Murray, DVM
