Jennifer,

I would highly recommend getting an all around good reference manual on ferrets like, 'Ferrets for Dummies' by Kim Schilling.

Do not use Head & Shoulders or you may cause a more serious problem!! Even human baby shampoo is too strong for ferrets. Its for cradle cap in human infants - ferrets don't get cradle cap and do not have dandruff. Get a ferret shampoo from a pet store that is made especially for ferrets.

Ferrets scratch. Ferrets that scratch all the time and don't have fleas may have adrenal disease which also causes hair loss and itchiness.

Do not use woods chips used for hamsters or you may very well lose both your ferrets to respiratory disease. Get blankets or towels and put those on the floor. Buy a litter box made for ferrets and fill it with either wood stove pellets or Yesterday's News.

And most importantly take her to a ferret knowledgeable vet to have her assessed for possible adrenal disease. Second, go out and buy Ferrets for Dummies and read it. It is well written and easy to understand. You can buy a used copy on Amazon.com for $2.00:

This is an invaluable resource for experienced and inexperienced ferret owners alike.

And read through the links the Moderator has recommended, they will give you an overview of what you may be dealing with!
