Subject: [ferrethealth] Increased Urination...any ideas..
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

My 6yrs old ferret Guille (pronounced Gee-Jay) suddenly start to have
increased urination.
I did not notice him at the box more frequently, but rather noticed more
wet litter in the box than normal.

At first, I did notice an order, which smelled like when humans eat
asparagus, but it only lasted about 48hrs then the odor went away, but the
increased urine did not.

He is VERY active....as active as a Kit, and my only other concern for him
is that he suddenly stopped eating his kibble, which he ate like a pig.
He will take soaked kibble, but only if I add more water and mashit for
him...if it is whole he dosen't want it. When he stopped eating the kibble he
lost weight, but as soon as I gave him what he wanted he went back to his
normal weight.

I did take him to his vet, who is ferret knowledgeable ... he felt the
bladder and said it felt full and tense. His first thought was the prostrate
(spelt wrong I am sure), so he did an ultra sound of the prostrate and
found it to be only slightly enlarged, but not enough for alarm, concern or to
start any meds. We are to monitor him.
He feels the slight enlargement is causing him not to fully empty his
bladder and therefore urinate more frequently. There is no straining to
urinate at all.

He had some soft stool, but other than that he is still very active. His
urine is yellow in color and I do not notice any increased thirst...as a
matter of fact, now that he gets his kibble soaked...he has not visited the
water bottle.

There was one day when he did take several pieces of kibble...but he has
not repeated that since.

Any ideas, thoughts, suggestions....

Thank you,

Judy
