HI Ardith,

Years ago I heard about a similar problem to ferrets who were housed
on cedar shavings....

if this is a rescue that is always a possibility.

[Moderator's question:
Alicia, was that from the extreme coughing that
cedar oils can sometimes start? A large jolt can
displace a lens, too.

On page 259 notice that a dislocated lens
can also cause vitreous tears per veterinary
ophthalmology text:
<http://books.google.com/books?id=fGJwfJWCc-kC&pg=PA259&lpg=PA259&dq=%22dislocated+lens%22+%2Bveterinary&source=bl&ots=kIvoHh6ZFo&sig=DV81DO8B17IbIGPC0dT2EWMvFx0&hl=en&ei=pOcFSoO7CoSHtgfA3ZCdBw&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=1>
or may herniate the pupil or obstruct
drainage. That text is _Essentials of Veterinary
Ophthalmology_

So the appointment with the veterinary ophthalmologist
is very important.

http://www.sniksnak.com/doghealth/lensluxation.html
tells about how repairs are done in dogs.

If the vet ophthalmologist is unfamiliar with ferrets then
it will be important to talk with a vet who regularly
operates on ferrets to learn about safe anesthesia,
hypothermia avoidance, and more]
