Subject: [ferrethealth] lethargy and difficulty breathing.
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I adopted a little girl named Kasey about 4 or 5 months ago. Her cage is kind of small, only two levels with one hammock, and she lives alone. I take her out of the cage for about 4 or 5 hours a day, and we play until she gets bored then I leave her alone and sneak up on her when she's not looking. This was our daily routine, I maybe missed a day every two weeks. The last two weeks I was working at the New Orleans Jazz Festival and only got to spend half as much time with her. I mention this because I thought that was why she was so down and that after a couple days of good play I could get her out of the slumps. Well, it's been a week and at first she seemed fine. She was active and happy to be out more. For three days now she has only been playing with me for about an hour, then crawling off and laying down right in the open. I try to entice her into one of our games, but she just lays there. I noticed today that her breathing is very erratic. I also found that her stool ma
y be a bit more liquidy than usual, but I wouldn't qualify it as diarrhea. Her eyes are healthy, her nose isn't running, no sneezing or coughing.

I'm talking to someone about adopting their ferret (which includes a lavish cage and many toys). My concern is this: am I seeing the whole "being an only ferret" thing finally catch up to Kasey, or is this the early stages of a sickness? I don't want her to be sick, and I don't want to adopt a new ferret into a sick home. Any ideas? Thanks, guys.
