Florida law says that dogs, cats, and ferrets must be vaccinated annually
unless specified differently by the manufacturer. This allows dogs and cats
to be vaccinated every three years since that is what the manufacturer
recommends. Because the manufacturer is silent on ferrets, they are required to be
vaccinated annually.
**The manufacturer is NOT silent on ferrets. Merial (the maker of the only
approved rabies vaccine for ferrets) has a label for one year protection in
ferrets on Imrab 3 (and for a few other species). Is it likely protective
for longer? Maybe. There are no guarantees, the testing has not been done,
and for best legal purposes, ferrets need to be vaccinated yearly.**
