To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
A moderator's IMPORTANT note:
We have been asked by veterinarian list members
to remind people whenever syringe feeding come
up as a topic that this, like some other things such
as giving sub-cutaneous fluids should be learned
HANDS ON from a vet or tech at the treating animal
hospital because if done wrong the food and fluids
can be inhaled causing aspiration pneumonia.
So, your first step is to contact the treating
hospital to discuss this.
It is very, very important to not give anything in a
way in which it may be inhaled -- no large squirts,
no aiming for the back of the throat, no failure to
allow time to breathe, and be sure to learn finger
feeding techniques and try them first.

If you go to the Bowtie Ferrets Magazine site see if the
article by Dr. Debbie Kemmerer Cottrell on giving meds
is available. I don't have the URL handy.
