Has anyone had any success using Benazepril (Lotensin) for kidney failure
in ferrets? My vet has prescribed it for two of my ferrets, and has said
there has been some success with cats. He's not sure whether it will help
ferrets. I looked in the Archives and it appears mostly to be talking about using
it for heart issues, but a quick Google search showed that it is used for
chronic kidney failure in humans.

**Didn't reply earlier because I have no experience using this in ferrets
for kidney issues, although ACE inhibitors like benazepril (and enalapril)
have certainly been helpful in the treatment of kidney failure in cats. I
have more experience with enalapril, personally, as every cat I've tried on
benazepril has been unable to keep the med down.

It's worth a try, but you do need to watch that the blood pressure doesn't
drop too far.**
