Subject: [ferrethealth] Imuran for IBD
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Over the course of the last few years, my friend's ferret (Max) has had on and off diarrhea, for which he was treated for by our vet upon flareups with success.

Over the last month or two he's had numerous flareups. Over the last two weeks he's had 5 to 6 flareups, the most recent one very serious.

He's been in prednisolone (10mg/ml) @ 0.1 cc twice a day. Over the last few months he's also been on amoxi, omeprazole, baytril, proviable...most recently chlarithromycin (sp?) has been added.

Within the last week or so he's been back to our vet 5 times. This past Wednesday he was so sick that she thought she was going to lose him. He was given oral barium and two anti-nauseau injections. Imuran and Liquid Dermacaps (omega-3) was started yesterday evening (5/20/09) - Imuran is 8mg/ml @ 0.1cc every 24 hours. Dermacaps is extra strength @ 0.15cc once a day.

Ultrasound revealed intermittent thickening of intestinal walls, no tumors.

He grinds his teeth continuously, very lethargic, has to be syringe fed (properly).

question: Can anyone tell us how long it should take before we see a difference in Max?? Any other advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance.

Penny
