I don't think anyone really knows at what age lupron should be started or what dosages might be effective. Right now, lupron as a preventative is just a theory. No one knows if it's going to work.

That said, I've begun starting mine at around one year of age. I'm giving the 3-4 month depot at a dosage of 500 mcg to 1 mg (depending on size/weight) year round. So far, I believe I'm seeing good things in my first two (that were started at one year of age). Both have been on lupron since July 2007 and, so far, neither has ever even had a case of what we like to call "seasonal rat tail" (which I've come to believe may actually be an early warning sign, rather then nothing to be concerned about....though that's just my thought).

I don't personally use melatonin in mine but if you're going to you might look into the implants rather then the oral version, as the implants may be more effective.
