Candace,

Where in Canada are you located?

Did the attending vet look in his mouth? Teeth/gums don't go bad over a few hours. He may have an abscess that is creating systemic sepsis. He may be in renal failure. Is your regular vet ferret knowledgeable?

What were the results of the blood work? Urinalysis?

This is clearly a seriously ill ferret and should be seen by an expert ferret veterinarian and most likely hospitalized with supportive care put in place. A shot of antibiotics won't clear a massive infection if that is what he has.

Are you near a teaching veterinary hospital e.g., Guelph? Get him to a ferret expert and have the necessary diagnostics done to determine what is going on with him!

He clearly is suffering, and if he wasn't doing so well only 2 days before, we would have put him to sleep already, but if it is something that can be fixed in a day or two, we wanted to give him that chance to get better. So please let me know if there is anything I can try with him.
