Your vet may be figuring that since
leuprolide acetate helps reduce
diabetes that it is unsafe with
insulinoma, but I think that the way
it helps with diabetes is by removing
a cause of chronic stimulation/
irritation rather than by dropping
blood glucose itself.
Check on that. Go to the webpage:
http://ferrethealth.org/archive/
Just look up messages that contain
Lupron and diabetes
in the body of the message by putting
those three words in the box that looks
for message content.
In the from box put
AFERRETVET
Leave the subject line box empty.
Then "click" the search "button" on that
webpage and then click open the resulting
found messages.
To do a wider search leave the "from" box
empty. Then pass on to your vet why Lupron
can be useful for diabetes in case that is
causing confusion. Print the expert vet
posts in there for your vet.
So far, everything I see that has info
both on Lupron depot and on blood
glucose has them as separate topics.
This is important:
Ask your vet what reference said that
caution, please. It may be something
I am not familiar with, may be a bad
resource (Yes, they exist; for example,
two vet writings mention two U.S. adrenal
rate studies, but no such rate studies exist
-- and i DID check with the person said
to be the original source of that "info",
and recently based upon a resource that
has its errors I learned of a situation in
which twice as much Prednisolone and
6 times as much Fludrocort was going to
be given to a ferret than she turned out
to actually need.), or may be an incorrect
recollection.
If there is a resource, please, pass it along.
Does your vet know ferrets?
