Subject: [ferrethealth] Looking for ferret vet with ferret size endoscope........
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I also posted this on the "other.....or former"?? FHL.

This is Jerri Carel with The Ferret Haven in Louisville, KY. Please
forgive the large audience I'm directing this e-mail to - but we're
really up against a wall here.

We have a 3 yr old ferret who has a "fixable" blockage but no vets in
the area with a small enough endoscope for the proceedure.

The blockage is IN the esophagus at the level of thoracic vert. 4/5/6.
We're told we'd need an endoscope of size 3 to 3.5, (I assume that's
mm??), to go in and try to pull the blockage out or push it through to
the intestine level.

[Name removed per rules] Univ in Ohio has one, but will charge $1000 for the scope
proceedure. That's just not possible on a shelter budget. They would
also do a thorocotomy if the scope did not work - at $3,000.

If anyone knows of a vet who may have the right tools, (and possibly a
little compassion in the billing department.....payments??.....our vet
would confirm we ALWAYS pay our bills), I would greatly appreciate your
assistance in getting their info to me or mine to them.

I am willing to take vacation days and drive quite a distance. There's
probably limits - CA is out of the question but as far west as CO,
anywhere in the South or East.

Thank You - on behalf of Zeus, the little ferret found wandering around
an apartment complex behind a mall, who really, really deserves a chance
at a full, healthy life!

THANK YOU!

[Hopefully, the edit to remove university clinic
name per rules works. One of tonight's posts
took 9 tries to get things to work. Hence a
reminder to people to read the administrative
post sent earlier today.

BTW, if you sent to the first URL we had someone
started a second FHL there but i think it folded, and
the second location we had was Smartgroups which
went away completely so we moved to this URL.
