Subject: [ferrethealth] Bailey's eye update
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

My regular ferret vet wanted Bailey to be seen by a animal ophthalmologist for a possible displaced eye lens.

After a very thorough exam, the specialist determined Bailey has glaucoma. His pressure test was 28, not good, but not horrible.
He has optic nerve damage and scarring and is blind in the right eye.

Bailey will get Timolol eye drops for two weeks, then be evaluated again.

Bailey came to me from animal control. The caretaker called to say they had a ferret that couldn't get into his hammy, and was having trouble walking.
He appeared to be around 2 years old then.
Several vet visits/tests later, we had no answer.
Bailey remains very uncoordinated to this day.

His head points one direction, his body goes another.
His hind feet often slip to the side.
His front legs will cross and remain that way till he lays down and tries again.
These are not constant, but often.

Now we may have the answer as to why.
This specialist could not say for certain, but it is a possibility.
The glaucoma started long ago, and is just now giving Bailey discomfort
