The vets my ferrets have seen don't believe in Melatonin much if at
all. In any case it isn't a cure, just a way to relieve symptoms or
perhaps to prevent the disease. Lupron depot can be very effective as
others have mentioned but it doesn't work in all ferrets. In the long
run lupron is more expensive than surgery anyway.

I was in the same situation as you when it became clear that Chin Soon
needed adrenal and insulinoma surgery. I was able to work out a
payment plan with the vet. I still believe that surgery is the only
real cure for adrenal though some here will dispute that. Chin Soon
had her surgery and payments are still being made. Fortunately I have
found freelance work which has helped the situation enormously.

Good luck!
Caity and the terrific trio (Chin Soon, Ella, and Zephyr)
