Subject: [ferrethealth] Air in an IV line?
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Recently, I visited a 7 year old ferret of mine who was spending the night at her vet, post surgery. I noticed 2 inches of air in her IV line, about 2 feet from her IV port, and brought it to a tech's attention. I was first assured the amount air would be fine but the tech flushed the line for me, anyway. Monkey Shines is recovering well at home now, so no harm done, even if there was any risk from the air.
My question is this, how much air is safe in an IV line for a ferret? I know it's preferable not to have any at all, but does anyone know if that 2 inches of air bubble would have caused Monkey any problems? She weighs about a pound and a half. I don't know what the flow rate was set for.
