Subject: [ferrethealth] Safe cleaning products to use around ferrets
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have an older ferret who is slowing down and having problems getting to the litter boxes in time. My question is - What cleaning product is safe to use as just a spray to keep handy to clean up his daily messes? I have been using all purpose cleaner with bleach, sometimes orange cleaner, sometimes just window cleaner. Will any of these hurt them if I clean up the poop, spray the area, then wipe with a paper towel. I do not spray around their food or water. Does it matter if the smell is there in the air in their room??? Thanks to everyone who is so helpful and has so much knowledge to offer in this group.

[Moderator's question:
By "air" do you mean air conditioning
or do you mean large air exchange
as with an open window?
We like baby wipes for fast clean ups.
White vinegar has also been useful
here. Others will mention other options.
Stores sell empty spray bottles for little
so the vinegar can go in one of those.
If you use ammonia products the ferret
will continue to go to the bathroom there
even if he later could get into the litter pot
because it shares some smell components
with urine.]
