Subject: [ferrethealth] insulinoma question.....
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Ok, so last Tuesday I had to put down my ferret, Rambo. The vet I took him to said he had insulinoma. He was almost 8 years old. I chose to have him put down because he was very old and may not have survived surgery and it just seemed best...I have 2 other ferrets, Patrick who is almost 7 and Zoe who is not quiet a year. Here is my problem...ONE WEEK TO THE DAY Patrick had the SAME symptoms. My boyfriend and I had gone away for the weekend, his sister stayed and cared for our animals. We returned late Sunday night. Having a slight case of sun poison and being exhausted I did not let Patrick and Zoe out Monday for their run around time their sitter had them out all weekend and said Patrick was running around and seemed fine. Tuesday morning I opened their cage to let them out and Patrick wouldn't come out. He just kind of lifted his head looked at me and put his head back down like he was tired out. I picked him up and put him on the floor and he wouldn't get up and move, then
he got up on his front legs and like military crawled to the dogs dish for some water. I thought to my self "Oh my God...not again I JUST went through this". He has always been my fat boy and it seemed like over night he was really skinny and just looked old. I carried him into the living room and laid him on the couch on a towel. He couldn't move to go to the bathroom and just messed all over himself. So, I called the vet who said he needed to be seen IMMEDIATELY. They gave him a steroid and antibiotic shot they said to make him comfortable and not in pain and said it is only a matter of time. We went back again for another shot and have to go back tomorrow as well. My question is this...is there a reason that both my boys were COMPLETELY healthy and never sick and had no signs of sickness then over night went completely downhill? And is there a reason that it happened EXACTLY one week later??? Should I separate Zoe? Is she going to get sick too? My vet said that she is fi
ne. But am I going to go through this again next week? I can't believe I lost my baby boy last week and now my other baby boy is going to pass too :( I fed him a little Beech Nut Chicken Baby Food today mixed with a little water, he ate about a spoonful. Now he is laying next to me on his little towel on the the couch sleeping. Any help is GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you,

Tracy
