Subject: [ferrethealth] Re: Spontaneous Diabetes
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Thank you all for the information and support. I'm sorry I haven't responded earlier. Not only did Flicka get so sick, but my air has been out since Sunday and my other girls were staying at the neighbors. My husband is out of town on business and I've been trying to keep him posted, but time differences make it hard. I just have spent all my time after work with her and not on the computer.

She has been spending her days at the vets office getting fluids and insulin shots, and her sugar has been coming down a little but her ketones had not even fluctuated at all. She was so tired and thin she only left her SUV sleeper bed to go to use the box. She still fought me with feeding, but in the last 48 hours she's only had maybe 20mL of food. We thought about trying to find the cause of her diabetes, but since her ketones hadn't changed and we had absolutely no idea where to start looking for the cause, and she just quit the fight I didn't think it would be fair to string her along, her little face showed she had already quit the fight before we were ready to let go. Yesterday afternoon she crossed the rainbow bridge while in my arms. I'm absolutely crushed, because this was all so fast and my husband didn't even get to hold her to say good bye. Pepsi and Birdie are tearing the cage apart looking for her too. What a lousy week!
