Diane,

We actually had 2 ultrasounds done on the bladder and neither indicated stones were present. I have differing opinions from the two vets about what exactly is causing the problem. One believes the swollen prostate is the only problem. The other thinks that Gizzie is not hydrated enough which makes his urine concentrated. His theory is that when Giz urinates, he starts and then it burns so he stops. Then it builds up and becomes more painful - so he just doesn't go. The urine has been more concentrated than it should be two times out of the five we've had to rush to the vet. The other times, the urine was normal. So, that theory may not be a good one. Both vets agree that the prostate is swollen and that the propecia is not doing a very good job of shrinking it. We've added a little prednisolone to the mix in hopes of decreasing any inflammation and of course we're back on baytril twice a day. Gizzie has been doing well the last few days, so
I'm hopeful we can figure out something to help him - possibly the surgery that someone else on this listed posted about - the marsupialization of the bladder. I'm researching to see if it is a possibility.

Thanks for your input. I really do appreciate it.

Michelle
