Update from Adelaide:

Bella was the last ferret to get sick and as at last night the others were all okay.

The owners were talking to a friend last night who breeds guinea pigs and rabbits and he said that he has lost 16 guinea pigs and 4 rabbits in about 3 weeks with what appear to be the same symptoms as both Thug and Reggie. They were having seizures and then developed breathing difficulties.

Maybe we are dealing with some type of virus that mutates from the rodent family to the ferrets or vice versa.

They have not had contact with this persons guinea pigs and rabbits and he has not had any contact with the ferrets.

The ferrets do not have any access to cigarette butts. The only place
they can run free is in the playground which is between the house and the neighbours fence. On the neighbours side is a shed between their house and the fence.

Tyzzer's disease could be a possibility. We will put it to the treating vets.

Christina
