Subject: [ferrethealth] Ear tumour in ferret
To: "FHL" <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>

A friend's ferret has multiple problems, insulinoma and a very horrible
looking tumour in his ear. My friend was messed around by the vets, when
the tumour was small, one vet thought it was a polyp and treated it with an
anti-inflammatory. When the tumour grew, ferret was taken to another vet
who was not enthused about operating it and made excuses and never gave my
friend a straight answer for cost and gave him an expired antibiotic and a
cleaning solution. Now that the tumour is so large, the vet would charge a
lot of money, not sure how much. My friend is annoyed of course that this
wasn't dealt with when the tumour was small. Any ideas what to do? I have
no idea about removing tumours out of ears...

The ferret is also swallowing hard after food at times. My friend sent a
video which I uploaded if anybody wants to have a look and could offer
advise. Some of my guys have done this in the past and I always thought it
was nausea but wanted to ask for advice here to be sure. I've uploaded
pictures of the tumour plus the video of the swallowing here:

Ferret has been on a relatively high dose of pred since April ( 1 mg twice a
day at first, now 1.5 mg twice a day) so I thought it could be the start of
stomach problems, pred is given with food (a/d and kibble mix).

Any help is greatly appreciated, my friend didn't know that much about
ferrets and illnesses, he took the 2 ferrets on when his sister died, and
has been caring for them extremely well with round the clock feedings every
4 hours for the sick boy.
