Yes to both questions. Having his BG checked again in a couple of weeks would seem prudent.

My vet weans VERY gradually off pred at 0.01mL every 3 days. For example, in 6 days the dose would be lower by 0.02mL; in 9 days, lower by 0.03mL etc.

IF weaning off pred I would think checking the BG every few days would be a good idea to monitor his BG and see if the drop in dose affects his BG, as well as, watching for obvious clinical symptoms.
