Subject: [ferrethealth] Seedy, Loose Poop but acts normal help
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com
I have a 1 1/2 year old male ferret. He is active, eats well, and acts like he always has.?
For the past 2 months his poop has become seedy and occasionally mucous like. We have taken him to the vet and she per scribed treatment for ECE (a combo of flagyl, pepto bismal, and amoxicillan). We did that for three weeks with no results. We then were told by our vet to run a course of just pepcid for two weeks. His poop still looks the same. Now the vet wants to try the ECE treatment again but adding a medicine called Carafate. She thinks he has an ulcer, but the only symptom he has is the bird seedy poop. He still eats and drinks well which seems uncommon with ulcers. Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions on what my ferret might have.
FYI: We already lost his companion in December. He was only a year and a half. He had similar symptoms, but a lot more severe and quicker. He was dead within six months of the start of the symptoms. We tried the same treatments as above.
Please help....I don't want to lose him so quickly as well.
Additional Details
He is also on a high quality ferret food. EVO brand which is grain free.
