Thank you for your input Dr. Sue!

Sampson is fat all around. He does not eat dry food at all, not since the splenectomy. I grind kibble (Innova EVO Ferret) and mix it with canned Innova EVO Feline 95% Duck, 1/2 tsp of 100% pumpkin and warm water, I give this to him every 4 hours and remove what he doesn't eat. He eats between 20-30mL more or less at any one time. Since ferret food doesn't come in a wet form, what would you recommend I get?

He's had a number of x-rays and that is how we founnd the tumor on his spleen. He was literally screaming with pain and went in for emergency surgery.

Last full blood panel was done January 26th just before the splenectomy. My vet doesn't think he is a good surgical candidate for elective surgery. He checked his pancreas when he went in to do the splenectomy and did not find anything remarkable. I assume the tumors must be so small that they weren't visible. At the time I had requested that he do a partial pancreactomy, however, given the length of time he was in surgery and the fact that no tumors were visible on the pancreas my vet opted not to keep him under any longer. The splenectomy and tumor removal involved more surgery than he had anticipated.

He has put him on a temporary regimen of prednisolone and diazoxide.
Pred 0.3mL BID @ 5mg/mL and diazoxide 0.6mL BID @ 50mg/mL for 2 weeks gradually reducing the pred until he is off it completely, and then slowly lowering the diazoxide. My vet does not want him on pred because of his history of recurring infections and his weight gain. However, his energy has increased considerably since I started this so unsure if taking him off pred altogether is a good idea. My vet is open to input from more experienced vets and if taking him off the pred is not the best option then I can discuss it with him.

I will take some pics and post them under Obese Ferret and you should clearly see his fat pads.

Thank you!

Tressie
