Subject: [ferrethealth] Reaction to Lupron Shot
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Last week Trinny got her second 1.0 mg, 4-month Lupron Depot in a month. The first one had no real effect, so we chose to get more aggressive and get her a second one. She is doing better since that second shot, but about 30 minutes after she got it she had a bad reaction. She had diarrhea 3 times in succession, then threw up. But after that I gave her some water and some of her Totally Ferret treats, and she bounced back to normal quickly. She's older, at least age 6 or more, but this was her first reaction to any shot of any kind. My vet says that a reaction to Lupron is not really a possibility, so it may have been something to do with the needle itself. Has anyone ever had a reaction to a Lupron shot? I'm a little apprehensive now about giving her another when the time comes, but we really don't have much of a choice, since she's not a candidate for surgery, and her adrenal disease is advanced.

That really does not sound like an allergic reaction. What is does sound
like it could have been is a panic response to having a large bore needle used,
which has to be done.]
