To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

Hi Jeff,

I had one ferret (recently adopted out) who used to literally jump after receiving her Lupron. First time the vet barely caught her in time or she would have fallen to the floor - subsequent injections same thing happened but we were prepared for it.

My vet tried using different sized needles and doing sub-q injections rather than IM and that didn't appear to make any difference. We were told by a more experienced ferret vet that Lupron does sting going in, irrespective of the size of the needle and that some ferrets are more sensitive to the stinging than others.

My vet has given Lupron injections to several of my ferrets but this one was the only one who had such a strong response. Fortunately, she's done with Lupron injections, she received a Deslorelin implant and is doing marvellously on it.

Perhaps Trinny is one of the sensitive ones. Although it does seem odd that it took 30 minutes for her to respond if that is what it was.

Tressie is right. My apologies. I was both tired and
distracted when I mentioned large bore needles and
am sure many thought, "Opps, she is thinking of the
melatonin implant." but Lupron does sting a lot and
some have a very hard time with that.]
