Subject: [ferrethealth] My ferret Poe, is
To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

I have a precious male who was given to me 3 yrs ago and I have no idea
his age but it's obvious he is quite an older guy. As of late, his
weight has dropped, he never plays with the 1 yr. old twin girls
(ferrets) and sleeps all the time....He isn't mean to the twins but I
can see he wants nothing to do with them...anymore and they sense it and
will leave him alone. Someone came to my home and commented that Poe
was old and might not live another yr by his appearance. He said his
ferret

looked like that right before he died... It is killing me watching him
knowing he is going away sooner than later...I can't bare the thought of
losing him. I've set up his own area stay with him as much as I
can....He is eating well but will lie down afterwards sometimes with his
head still in the bowl! I wasn't aware of their short life span...I got
way too attached....I was wondering if a ferret has to get sick before
he dies? or is it possible they just lie down and pass while
sleeping...

Thank you for being a group I can mention this litle entity that has
been the love of my life for 3 yrs. How in this world do yall cope with
their loss...I'm not sure I am going to be able to handle this too well
at all

[Sounds like time for a vet exam. You can find ferret vets in
the FHL Files section at the website.

Among other things an blood glucose test sounds like it is called
for.

Ferrets live long and well despite a number of medical problems
IF those problems are properly treated. --- Moderator]
