When we got Mr. Parker, his mouth was a horrible mess. I don't even know how he was able to chew food without pain. We used something called BIOTENE VETERINARIAN, an antiseptic oral gel that is for severe mouth infections. It helped to heal up a lot of the problems he had, at which point we then had the bad teeth removed, and the others scaled. He was in bad shape over all when he came to us, yet he came thru the tooth removal and scaling very well. Your vet may be able to use a milder type of sedative or anesthesia for this process.
