Subject: [ferrethealth] Lowering pred before giving Diazoxide?

I've written about my friend's ferret Willie before. He was diagnosed with
insulinoma about beginning of May and the first vet put Willie on 3 mg pred
per day straight away. Pred isn't really making a difference, Willie has
become obese which doesn't help and can barely walk but then again there's
only floor tiles on the ground. My friend has now got Diazoxide to try but
his current vet wants my friend to cut the current pred dosage (2.7 mg per
day divided into 3 doses) into half and then start Diazoxide 2 mg twice a
day.
My friend wants to know whether that sounds right and my feeling is that it
wouldn't be good to lower the pred dosage so drastically. But could
Diazoxide be given with the current pred dosage? I've got no experience
with Diazoxide so don't know.
