To: ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com

...My question is how often is pumpkin given, do you syringe feed it, do ferrets find it palatable, and should it be given before the pred (I usually give him chicken before the pred and diazoxide). I'm assuming that its just canned uncooked pumpkin puree that is for pies?...

Do NOT use pumpkin pie filling. You need to get 100% PURE pumpkin. I would add 1/2 tsp to a heaping teaspoonful to the duck soup you are feeding him. You don't say whether the chicken is chicken baby food or chicken meat. I make a duck soup out of A/D, pumpkin and water. Sometimes I use a combination of A/D and chicken baby food, depending on what the problem is. All my ferrets get the A/D or Innova EVO 95% Duck, pumpkin soup mix twice a day, every day. Kibble is always available.

Recently one of my friends rescued a young male and he has ECE. The pumpkin added into his wet food is the only thing that is controling his slimey green diarreah. With one feeding his stools normalized.
