Subject: [ferrethealth] Re:Adrenal treatment (LH levels)
To: <ferrethealth@yahoogroups.com>
Dr. Murray and knowledgeable FHL members,
Why is it that melatonin is not the preferred treatment?
For the past 3 years, I have 2 adrenals (5 YO female and 6 YO male) who receive daily oral melatonin, a natural diet (RMB) and natural foods/medicines such as kefir. Other than hair loss and occasional vulva swelling in my female (which I control with epsom salt soaks), they are managing quite well with no other medications. They receive 3 mg 3 times daily with flaxseed oil. Both are maintaining good weights with little to no muscle wasting. I see no sexual agressive behavior or prostate/urinary issues in the male. Neither have any gastrointestinal issues. Both appear happy and enjoy playtime, etc.
Neither have had complete work-ups from the vet because neither have experienced any serious issues. Surgery was not considered an option for either as our history with surgeries has been very poor.
Thank you in advance for any insight you can provide.

...High levels of hormones from the adrenal glands
do not stimulate the pituitary to produce more LH
and/or FSH. Production of LH and FSH is under
control of GnRH from the hypothalamus. GnRH
production is under control of melatonin. Melatonin
levels are based on the photoperiods input to the
pineal gland....>>>>
