I have to agree with Deb. We live within the same general area in a northern climate at northern lattitudes and we have a situation where our ferret vets in the area are very uncomfortable with right gland removal and will only debulk them. Both Deb and I travel at least 45 minutes to an hour one way for any of these vets. (We would need to go out of state for complete excision). NO vet I had spoken to had even wanted to use Lupron until my current one. I had one who was willing to get it but quoted me $3000 up front cash for "3 years worth of doses" when broken down and frozen. They did not have the faintest idea the stuff only freezes 3-6months.

My Clyde had reoccurence in 4 months after unilateral surgery and Ferretonin implants. Many of the ferrets that come through the local shelter have unilateral surgery and most never regrow the shaved belly fur and suffer from reoccurence in 6mos-1yr even with ferretonin implants. I would go as far to say that there is no way your ferret will not relapse after surgery in this area. It is just a matter of when.

I have spoken to no one who owns ferrets save a percentage on this list who's ferrets have not had reoccurence of adrenal disease after unilateral surgery. Please do not take this as a criticism but how can one say a ferret has been cured of adrenal disease through surgery if it returns, ever, after surgery? (I know some do stay in remission, I have never seen it personally though)
