Hello, I wanted to see if anybody can help me with my ferret, Murphy. He is under vet care and I really like the vet, but we both are stumped as to wha could be wrong. Here we go:
History- Murphy is a rescue from Petco. They were keeping him in the back due to his fatigue and lack of hunger. They had him on Marshall's and SD kitten(wet). I brought him home and switched him over to EVO ferret, Orijen cat and TF. He eats fine. He had a vet appt with my old vet and got his rabies and distemper shot (at seperate times) and had a fecal done (neg). He has a healthy looking coat and eyes, ears and hind end are clean. Poop looks normal.
Around June 4th I noticed that Murphy's hind legs had a wet appearence that did not wipe away and under the front legs there were scab like debris. His face was swollen also. I called a new vet that was closer and I had heard very postive comments about. She diagnose a wet dermititis. They shaved him and cleaned him up and put him on an oral and topical antibiotic. Both of which he hates.
BTW- while he was under she did a complete physical of his body and teeth. She did not find or feel any lumps or anything esle abnormal.
He was on that for 2 weeks and really had improved, but there were some spots of scabbiness that had not completely cleared so she instructed another 2 weeks on oral antibiotics.
About a week into that I called and asked for a stronger dose since some spots seemed to be coming back. She increased from 0.5 ml twice daily to 0.2ml once daily and instruceted me remain on that for 6 weeks.
I am about 3-4 weeks into that and there has been no improvement. On top of that, this past Sat. his feet were swollen about 3 times the size they should be. The swelling has decreased, but the feet still look inflammed. He has also lost a lot of the hair on his feet.
I have scheduled a vet appt for tomorrow at 8 am, but I feel that this may be a last visit for Murphy.
Please if any one can help, let me know!
Bobbie
